myPhonak app adds ‘Find my hearing aids’ feature, expanded CROS controls, and Phonak Sky™ compatibility
‘Find my hearing aids’ is here! New highly anticipated features are now available with myPhonak. ‘Find my hearing aids’ and CROS balance with CROS mute. Older kids and teens can now use the myPhonak app with their Phonak Sky™ hearing aids.
Released on September 2nd, 2024, myPhonak 6.9 for iOS™ and Android™ is now available for download. The myPhonak app is for users with wireless Phonak hearing aids which allows for remote control, tracking of health data, and enables hearing care providers to remotely program their clients’ hearing aids using live video telehealth technology.
Introducing the ‘Find my hearing aids’ feature with Phonak Infinio
App users with Phonak Audéo™ Infinio, Phonak Audéo Sphere™ Infinio, Phonak Virto Infinio (coming soon), and Phonak CROS Infinio hearing aids can track where their hearing aids were last seen by their phone as well as use a “hot and cold” type finder to locate them when powered on and in close proximity.
Using ‘Find my hearing aids’ feature requires enabling location tracking for myPhonak. After pairing Infinio devices with the myPhonak app, the user is asked to activate ‘Find my hearing aids’ feature.
Press ‘Activate’. The phone will prompt to enable location tracking. This will look a little different on iOS or Android. It is important to allow location access with the highest precision and “all the time”.
For iOS and Android press “Allow While Using App.” Then for iOS press “Change to Always Allow” on the next prompt. This will ensure that even when myPhonak app is not open, it will record the location of the hearing aids in the event they become separated from the phone. Please note Sonova does not have access to location information.
Now that Find my hearing aids is active, it can be opened anytime by going to “Devices” then “Find my hearing aids.” From here the location of the hearing aids is visible. There is also a signal strength meter to detect how close each hearing aid is to the phone, as long as the hearing aid is still powered on.
Expanded CROS controls are here for Infinio, Lumity, and Paradise CROS
CROS users can now enjoy more control of their hearing aid and Phonak CROS transmitter with the myPhonak app. Once the app has updated to version 6.9 they will automatically gain access to these controls as no firmware update to the hearing aid or CROS is necessary.
With expanded controls it is now possible to mute the CROS transmitter and adjust the balance of sound coming from the transmitter versus the hearing aid side.
To make changes to the CROS transmitter with the app, tap “More settings” on the home screen then tap “CROS settings”
Sky hearing aids are compatible with myPhonak app
Phonak’s line of Sky hearing aids for pediatric users is now compatible with the myPhonak app, in addition to the myPhonak Junior app. For users who are ready for more functionality, for example teenagers, myPhonak app offers additional controls compared to the Junior app. With myPhonak they will be able to create and manage programs. Creating programs also allows them to make more persistent changes to the hearing aids with more functions compared to the Junior app.
Where Junior offers temporary adjustment of Speech Focus and Noise Reduction, myPhonak app additionally offers Equalizer and soft versus loud input (named Dynamic in the app) adjustments. With myPhonak, these adjustments are saved as a new program that can be quickly accessed at any time.
