Program the all new Phonak Infinio with Phonak Target 10.0

Streamline your Phonak Infinio fitting with Target 10.0, a new visual design, and even more enhancements.

On August 7th, 2024, Phonak launched Target 10.0. Depending on your country this version of Target may become available on a later date.

Phonak Target 10.0 is the latest version of Phonak’s fitting software which is used for programming and adjusting Phonak hearing aids. Each update improves the experience of fitting Phonak hearing aids.

In this article we will review what you need to know about Phonak Target 10.0 as a hearing care professional.

Acoustic coupling recommendations

Phonak Target 10.0 shows recommendations for domes. See Figure 2 for an example. This is not new but the recommendations you have seen in the past may be different now. This is because Phonak Target 10.0 uses a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) dome proposer based on learnings from thousands of successful fittings.

The recommendations now also account for how symmetrical the hearing loss is, the fitting formula, the patient’s experience level, and whether it is a monaural or binaural fitting.

Visual update

Visual improvements have been made to modernize the look and feel of Phonak Target including new colors. See Figure 3 below.

Additionally, the “News” section has been moved to the sidebar during a fitting session. You can now easily see the recent changes to Phonak Target broken down by version.

Recalculating the fitting

When changes are made to the fitting that affect how the hearing aid should calculate targets you are prompted with an orange icon over the target symbol to recalculate. This dialog box has been updated in Target 10.0. See an example in Figure 3.

Figure 4: Updated dialog box.

First the message confirms the Target curves have already been adapted based on the selected fitting formula.

You will then notice options greyed out which are changes which must be applied if you choose to proceed and confirmation that the fine tuning will not be reset.

You have the option to further reset all fine tuning and/or reset the program options.

You can also choose not to apply any of the changes to the fitting.

Fitting changes

Autosense OS™ 6.0 is now available for the Phonak Infinio platform devices. This introduces the new Spheric Speech in Loud Noise program for Sphere devices.

Several changes have been made to first fittings and can be customized based on your preferences.

  • Speech Enhancer is now “ON”’ by default for all experience levels.
  • Tap control will now be disabled for all new fittings by default. This requested change empowers hearing aid wearers to decide when (and if) they want to use Tap control. They can enable this function at any time via their mobile app or the default behavior for new fittings can be changed in the settings by the provider. As the provider you can individually enable Tap control during any fitting or even activate it during a Remote Support session.
  • Vent estimation is now automatically turned on after running a feedback test. This ensures the estimated vent and sound leakage from the Feedback test is applied, automatically customizing gain targets to the patient’s personal measurements. If you prefer to leave vent estimation off by default you can change this in the settings.

Additionally, for those pediatric fittings there are updates to Junior Mode defaults.

  • Dynamic Noise Cancellation (DNC) feature is set to ‘weak’ (i.e., 7 out of a possible 20) for all ages, to improve speech understanding in noisy environments.
  • Speech In Loud Noise feature is enabled for children ages 13-18 to improve speech understanding in significant background noise.
  • QuickSync feature (e.g., adjusting volume, switching programs) is set to “Enabled” instead of “Use default” to simplify simultaneous adjustments.

The above default behaviors can be configured in Setup -> Fitting Session -> Fitting or under Junior Mode for those settings.
