Verification assistant in Phonak Target: Your new best friend in verification

Discover how this feature can help you ensure both reliable and repeatable results when manually verifying a fitting to target.

Virtually all hearing instruments have advanced adaptive features — such as signal processing schemes, gain and compression variables, frequency lowering, and noise management algorithms.

These features ensure that sound processing adapts to the prevailing acoustic conditions in real time. These features are highly valuable and competitive, providing consistent benefits to users. Ideally, these features should be activated at all times according to the selected program.

When verifying a fitting to target, we want to have the hearing instrument process the sound in the same way every time. This way, we achieve repeatable and consistent results that are compatible with the target curves.

Manually managing multiple features before and after verification would be cumbersome. To streamline this process, hearing instruments include a built-in “verification mode,” that manages the advanced features in a controlled and repeatable way.

Automatic verification with TargetMatch

When using TargetMatch, you don’t need to do anything additional to perform verification of fittings—it automatically manages verification mode. This automation allows for efficient and accurate verification while reducing manual steps.

When performing verification of a fitting to target outside of TargetMatch, you need to manually manage the verification mode. This is where the Verification assistant feature can help.

Manual verification with Verification assistant

When fitting to target, advanced features must be turned off before verification begins and restored to the desired settings based on the HCP’s and client’s preferences once the fitting-to-target process is completed.

We designed the Verification assistant feature to guide you through this process, ensuring that the hearing instrument and verification equipment settings are consistent for accurate results. By following the assistant, you can reduce errors and ensure reliable verification.

You can access the Verification assistant via [Fine tuning] < [Gain & MPO] < [Verification assistant]

The first screen of the Verification assistant.

Verification of advanced features

If you need to verify specific advanced features, such as SoundRecover (rather than a fitting to target), do not use the Verification Assistant. For these cases, we recommend:

– Carefully selecting an appropriate test signal
– Changing the settings of only one feature at a time when comparing measurements

This ensures that any visible differences between measurement curves can be attributed to a specific feature.

These are general guidelines for verifying advanced features. Please let us know in the comments section below if you would like more clarification.
