Find newly added expert-recommended resources on Phonak.com, including pediatric protocols, assessment tools, and clinical guidance to support your work with children with hearing loss.
Providing the best possible care for children with hearing loss requires access to up-to-date research, clinical protocols, and expert guidance.
At the 9th International Pediatric Conference: “A Sound Foundation Through Early Amplification”, top pediatric audiology experts—including Dr. Jace Wolfe, Dr. Marlene Bagatto, Dr. Erin Picou, and Dr. Ryan McCreery—shared insights on key resources that can enhance clinical practice.
What’s new?
We’ve added several key resources to help audiologists stay informed and enhance their approach to pediatric hearing care:
- Evidence-based pediatric protocols – Six recommended pediatric protocols, including the Ontario Infant Program Amplification Protocol that includes a new addendum on unilateral hearing loss (UHL) guidance, offering insights into best practices for managing children with UHL.
- Vanderbilt Classroom Listening Assessment Short Survey (VCLASS) – The VCLASS is designed to evaluate a student’s listening experiences in different environments, with both unaided and aided assessment options. Upon completion, the survey automatically calculates scores, and clinicians can download a PDF of the completed form for review and documentation.
- Guidance on hearing aid fittings for mild hearing loss – The recently published article, Hearing aid fitting criteria for children with mild hearing loss, co-authored by Dr. Ryan McCreery and colleagues, provides evidence-based recommendations to guide clinical decisions for fitting hearing aids to children with mild hearing loss.
Well-used pediatric tools at your fingertips
In addition to these new resources, our webpage continues to offer essential materials that hearing care professionals frequently rely on, including:
- Interactive assessments – Digital tools that can be completed on a computer, with auto-calculating results based on user input. These assessments can also be shared electronically with teachers and parents to fill out and return via email.
- Ling-6 – A practical resource to help clinicians and families assess a child’s ability to detect and discriminate key speech sounds. Includes instructions, scoring sheet, and audio and calibration files.
- Question Prompt List (QPL) – A helpful tool designed to guide family discussions during audiology appointments, ensuring that important concerns are addressed.
- Unilateral hearing loss (UHL) guidance – A dedicated section that includes the Consensus Practice Parameter paper for UHL, providing best practices for managing children with UHL.
- Pediatric publications – A collection of research articles and clinical papers to keep you informed on the latest developments in pediatric audiology.
